Statement of Work:
There can be joy found in being alone; however when not a deliberate choice, being alone may also manifest itself as a painful experience. When a link to the world around us is desired but unfulfilled, being alone can bring about a longing for connection. Whether transient or lingering, this pain and longing is not isolated to a specific time or location; instead it exists within the individual as a personal and subjective experience.
Being alone can be a positive experience or a negative one. This body of work focuses on the latter; negative feelings of isolation, and the uncertainty or insecurity that may accompany them, that can emerge to grapple with one’s innate emotional need “to belong.”
