Slow Dancing explores ephemerality and embracing change as a natural part of existence. The project presents a neutral and somewhat removed stance, deliberately creating more questions than it answers and giving viewers the space and autonomy to draw their own conclusions while contemplating the work. All photos were shot between 2018 and 2020, with the project coming about naturally as an extension of my thoughts and feelings at the time.
The full project consists of 45 pictures organized into a photo book. Select photos and spreads from the work are included here.
Statement of Work:
After life begins, aging and decay follow as natural parts of life. Manmade structures, though inanimate, follow a similar arc. Though resilient and built of ostensibly durable materials like metal or concrete, they will never last indefinitely. Ideas can be formed in an instant, and just as easily be forgotten. Cultures are swayed by the zeitgeist, replacing outmoded beliefs and norms for new ones.
Through all of this, change is constant. The title, Slow Dancing, alludes to our steady movement through our conscious perception of time.
